Our Story

Smoky Mountain Pictures grew out of a lifelong love of movies and years of independent filmmaking. Long before the company had a name, we were already making films — learning by doing, solving problems with limited resources, and discovering that the stories worth remembering are usually the ones with something real underneath them.

Our work has ranged across comedy, drama, horror, documentary, and stories that do not fit neatly into a single category. What connects them is an interest in characters, places, relationships, and the unexpected moments that make people feel real.

The Great Smoky Mountains became an especially important part of that journey. They inspired the creation of Smoky Mountain Pictures and became the setting for Almost Trying, our current flagship feature. But the company is not limited to one location or one kind of story. Our goal is simple: make distinctive independent films with personality, heart, humor, and something audiences will remember when the credits are over.
